Volunteer
You have the opportunity to make a huge difference in the way that young people grow to view the world while having a rewarding and meaningful experience helping others.
In our community, there exists a large population who live their daily lives with autism, Asperger’s Syndrome, PDD-NOS, and other social disorders. As they grow and experience a world created with rules that they may not understand, it is imperative that these unique individuals are provided with positive social models that care to help them grasp the social world in which they must live. This is where you and other volunteers come in!
iCan House is a place for social gatherings and programs that will help children and adults learn how to succeed in social interactions. There are a great number of resources available for parents at iCan House, and YOU are one of them. YOU have the unique opportunity to make a significant impact on these young people’s lives through first-hand experience and support. Dedicated volunteers, committed to giving these young people every opportunity for success as they mature, provide the foundation of iCan House. Together, we form a community. We can make a lasting impression on the lives of a very special and gifted population. Thank you for seeing our vision and helping us to create a reality.
iCan House offers several ways to become involved to help make a difference in the lives of the members. If you think that you could be a reliable volunteer that is dedicated, and enthusiastic about helping those with ASD or other social disorders, we would love for you to join our team!
How To Volunteer
If you have a set number of volunteer hours to complete for a class or assignment, thank you for considering doing those hours with iCan House! Please understand that we do not always have placements readily available that will meet your needs. Our volunteer opportunities are based on the needs of our members and the availability of our staff to train and supervise volunteers. Please fill out an application, and we will be in touch with opportunities we currently have available.
1. Fill Out Volunteer Application
Please complete the application or send us an email at info@icanhouse.org to get the process started.
2. Wait for Your Application to be Processed
Please allow us five (5) business days to review your application. Our volunteer coordinator will call or email you to talk about your application. Should your application and volunteer interests match our current needs, we will then follow up for a background check and then an orientation.
3. Schedule and Participate in the Volunteer Orientation
A background check is required for all volunteers. Once the background check is complete, we will proceed with training and orientation which is provided through an online portal. Orientation will include information about neurodiversity, the history, philosophy and culture of iCan House. You will learn about our programs and volunteer tasks, review iCan House policies and expectations, and complete any additional paperwork. We will also discuss what roles you will play as a volunteer.. The orientation will take 30-45 minutes.
4. Get Started!
Once all of your paperwork and training is completed, we will work with you on a weekly schedule.. There is a lot you can do to help us help others AND a lot of fun to be had, so get ready and get excited!
We are grateful for your offered time and support and we look forward to working with you! If you have any questions, please email us at info@icanhouse.org or call our office at 336-723-0050.
